Wise counsel

Wise Counsel "Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him" - Exodus 18:19 (NIV) Every good leader needs someone who can advise him. There is an old adage which says 'He who cannot be counseled cannot be helped' and one that says, "He that asks for direction will not go missing" If we are to be guided aright then we must be people given to good counsel. The Scripture teaches that in the multitude of counsel there is safety! (Proverbs 11:14, 24:6) But note the following; Listen - Listening means to be attentive with the intent to comprehend and understand what is being heard. It means to be willing to yield to instruction. We must have listening ears. The Voice -  It is not enough to listen. Who are you listening to? Moses listened to Jethro, a man of experience and good intention. Listening to a fool will only bring shame and distraction, ...

Purpose

Journey Into Purpose So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee. Now he had to go through Samaria.  So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. - John 4:3-6 (NIV) As we continue our journey to the Mountain Top, the story of Jesus’ journey to Galilee comes to mind. "Now he had to go through Samaria"... There seems to be an urgency, a tug in the Spirit, a Divine lure, an unseen pull drawing Jesus to Samaria. This detour wearied Jesus, but it was a very necessary turn. His contact with the Samaritan opened up Samaria to the gospel. What if He had ignored this pull of the Spirit? One of the things you and I must do on our journey is to yield to the prompt and pull of the Holy Spirit. It does not matter if the leading is into the wilderness (Luke 4:1- Jesus, full of the H...

Miracles

Miracles of Provision But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” … and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,  I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies... - Genesis 22:11-17 (paraphrased) In Bible days miracles were a daily regular occurrence. Every turn that God’s people made, He was there demonstrating His Power and might. God wants us to have similar experiences like of old, especially in this time of crisis and famine. We have since looked into a number of attitudes and actions that create the right atmosphere for miracles. Today, we turn our focus at sacrificial giving. In the scripture reading abov...

Blessing

Blessing In The Covenant Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy… Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” …God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. - Genesis 21:14-17 (NIV)   Certain death seemed to loom over Hagar’s baby. She had done all she could do and now had resigned herself to fate. Everything pointed towards the finality and permanent hopelessness of the situation…everything except COVENANT! Ishmael may have been the “illegitimate” son, but he was nonetheless the son of Abraham. This relationship automatically gave him certain privileges with God. Notice that though the bible rec...

Stir the atmosphere

Stir The Atmosphere Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” - Genesis 18:2-5 (NIV)   The miraculous can be stirred by various faith deeds. We spoke earlier about the place of service as we expect God's intervention in our affairs but today we press further and deeper into this subject. Abraham saw a service opportunity and volunteered even though he did not know these men were divine messengers. I believe we will have a lot of angelic interventions and manifestations all around us for miracles and angelic visitatio...

New things

New Things Are About To Happen "So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. - Genesis 6:14-16 (NIV) God always loves doing new things. His creative nature constantly moves Him to work, and as His children we also have the creative grace. We all need to be believers in this grace. It matters. Notice how Noah responded to a new task even though nothing like that had been done before. Notice also that even as God gave the vision and task, He also gave the direction and plan. He even provided the resource, so all Noah had to do was follow the plan. I believe that in this journey to the Mountain Top, God will set us all up in ...

Starting Big

Start Big With Small Things But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”  He said, “Bring them here to Me.” - Matthew 14:16-18 (NKJV)   One of the things that we must do as we pursue greatness is to offer up whatever skill, ability, talent or gift we have to the Lord and trust Him to bless and multiply it. Stop waiting for “everything to fall in place”. What do you have right now? Offer it to God. Use whatever ‘little’ ability you have immediately. Time has a way of running away from us. So we must all decide now to bring out our abilities no matter how ‘ordinary’ they seem. Consider Job 8:7- Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly. There is nothing wrong with starting small, but there is a lot wrong with not starting at all. Stop expla...
